40 years of business on Main Street in Snyder, Bellezia
Tobacco Shop opened a new Amherst location on Friday,
Aug. 31, 2012 on Transit Road in Williamsville. Bellezia owner
Milton Kalnitz said he is extremely excited about the reopening
of the store, which closed its Snyder location in December.
A fire in the businesss building led to its closing.
We are ready for this grand opening, Kalnitz said.
This store is three to four times larger than our former
Main Street store.
started the business after beginning to craft a supply of
handmade tobacco pipes about 40 years ago. At the time,
It was one of only seven businesses in North America that
sold handmade pipes, he said. Kalnitz said that when
seeking a name for the store in the 1970s, he asked his son
for a name that sounded romantic. Pipes,
to me, are kind of romantic, he said. I asked
my son to find a nice romantic name in Spanish. I found belleza,
which means beautiful. I learned I couldnt use that
name, though, because it was already being used. So, I added
a I and took Bellezia, which actually means beautiful
aunt in Italian.
Bellezia, Kalnitz said he has crafted and sold pipes to many
area professional sports stars as well as politicians throughout
his years of business. Kalnitz said he is happy to be able
to carry on the tradition of pipe making with his grandson,
David, who also works at the store. I am so glad that
our younger generation can carry on this business,
